Create a publication calendar (can be a month, a season, or a year), figure out a publishing cadence, and working backwards, set cascading deadlines for each piece (first draft/revisions due/finalize/publish). Enter them in your calendar tool of choice, and STICK TO IT.

i think this is it! do you just use calendar or some sort of program for the publishing calendar?

Simplest is best for me! I use really basic tools: I create a spreadsheet, listing each assignment, with a column for each deliverable (draft/revision/final/publish) with a deadline, then enter the deadlines in my calendar.
