Kanuga

If he’s going to be in the Hendersonville area, we love staying at Kanuga. While it’s a part of the episcopal diocese, you don’t have to worry about that aspect at all, it’s completely unobtrusive. Stay in a cottage/cabin, campsite, or the inn, comes with a hearty breakfast and several on-site trails. Quick ~45 min from Asheville, as well as near to other hiking trails. We frequent White Duck Taco, West First Wood-Fired pizza, the Co-op, Underground Baking Co., Whit’s, & Oklawaha Brewing Company. Cute downtown with a little gem & mineral museum.
