I want to piggyback off this as well because this is what speaks to me most accurately as someone who’s also on the spectrum, anxious, people pleasing, and has OCD, having constant intrusive thoughts is exhausting especially when you’re interpreting the smallest interactions as evidence for why someone cares or doesn’t care about you. How I eventually came to manage these thoughts was about being truthful with yourself about where these insecurities come from and sitting with that discomfort as Dylan said. The next step I think that was implied but I want to point is self love and acceptance. Because once you know your worth and can love yourself, even if you’re not 100% perfect you will naturally find yourself to not care about the opinions of others, whether real or self imagined. It’s a long and tough road to get to that point and for the longest time I didn’t believe it myself but the tunnel does end. I promise, friend.

Also not to say that other advice won’t help. But as someone who’s heard it all, this truly was the only thing that worked for me.

Sorry I do want to clarify this comment to not come off as dismissive and explain a bit more of the rationale. You can’t really rationalize your way out of this style of thinking depending on the source of your paranoia. It’s usually a deep seated insecurity and unfortunately mantras like “people really aren’t thinking about you that way” or “even if they are who cares” are unhelpful because those are rationalizations for one-off or occasional intrusive thoughts. If your worries are persistent like 24/7 persistent then I can tell you that it can help temporarily but is not a sustainable long term solution. Therapy. It’s basically a form of therapy involving sitting in discomfort and learning to heal the part of you that makes you think these thoughts whether it’s from trauma or grief, or wherever. And like I said before it’s fucking hard. It’s not a quick process. And it’s highly uncomfortable. But it does eventually work. Which may not provide a certain amount of comfort now.

Also trusting other to communicate (or not) their feelings to you is being respectful towards other people. They can make the choice to share or not
