Offer to Take the Photo

When you spot a family or group of friends taking a photo, offer to take the photo so everyone can be in it. Not just that, though. Be joyful about it! Announce, "I'm going to take a few!" Do a few angles and in both landscape and portrait modes. Do a close up and a further away shot. Okay, now a silly one! Be quick about it, but take at least 5 shots. Your photo is going to be their holiday card!

A friendly stranger once offered to take a family photo of us when we were at a cafe that also had board games. It was such a kind gesture - and it is still one of my favorite photos of our family ☺️

Once when I was flying with my family, the person behind our row on the plane took portraits of my baby playing peek-a-boo with her through the seat (we had no idea at the time). When the plane landed, she sent the photos to us. I still can’t get over her kindness—or the photos!

I practice this all the time. As a single parent during the 90s, I have about 6 pics of my daughters and me together. I make sure to ask every mom I see if I can grab a quick pic for them!

I do this every chance I get and always ham it up while snapping a bunch: “gorgeous! Ya’ll are naturals!” Etc. it elicits laughs which gets better smiles. I’d very much like to think my pics ended up on Christmas cards, yes.
