Monhegan Island

i went over to monhegan island last weekend, returning for the first time since i was a baby. artist studios and small museums are scattered around the island, painting a picture of its long history as a haven for artists drawn to its rugged landscape and remove from the mainland. ferries run from pemaquid and port clyde, making it an easy and very worthwhile day trip.
