I grew up with the very best, most classic, hole-in-the-wall French-style bakery right on the walk to elementary school. My grandma was friendly with the very kind Greek (!) owner (she and her husband had purchased it from the original owners, who no doubt WERE French), who probably gave every single child - but certainly every child in my family, at least - who came into her bakery, with or without cash to buy anything, a free treat, usually a mini eclair. That bakery is now shuttered and the owner off to enjoy a beautiful retirement in Greece, and I briefly mourned the fact that I might never be able to find eclairs again like hers; those bougie French ones just don’t do it for me, and I’ve given them plenty of chances. But then I visited Greece. Turns out (makes sense if you think about it for a fraction of a second!) she was making Greek-style eclairs, I guess. This place has them, and they are delectable.
