The Wire: An education.

When I was in senior year of high school a social studies teacher created a seminar for a few of us where we basically just watched this (and the “Up” series, also incredible! But probably not along the lines of what you’re looking for) and talked about it once a week. I’ve always felt so lucky to have had that experience, since this show honestly reshaped how I viewed American society fundamentally and irreversibly. I think it’s an important watch, and also highly amusing. Acting is just top-notch.

Mr. Inbetween: This show has literally nothing to do with Breaking Bad but if you ever wanted a whole show about Mike, but he’s Australian and smiles a lot more, this might be the show you’ve been waiting for. Ah the dilemma: how to have a violent job while raising a tweener daughter, caring for your brother with motor neuron disease, and generally navigating mundanity as we all must? A perfect execution of a classic blueprint.
