I gave this to my dad for Christmas last year and it’s the greatest gift for both of us. I wrote a bunch of questions (or you can use their preselected ones). Every week, the site emails him a question and he writes a story in response. At the end of the year, each of us will receive a bound book of his stories. He (78, retired) loves writing these, and I love reading them — I’ve learned so much about him. Already planning to do volume 2 in 2027!
Hit questions (for my dad, ymmv) include:
What are some trends (clothing, style, music) you’ve been into at different points in your life?
In what ways are you proud to be an American? How has that pride been complicated over your lifetime?
What’s your biggest kitchen disaster?
What made you fall in love with mom?
What’s a book that had a big impact on you in your 20s?

If your parents are anything like mine, they might resist answering too many personal questions in the moment. Gifting my parents this subscription of personal story prompts (and editing the questions myself) turned into a year-long ritual for them where they dis”

“I did this with a relative and it is such a keepsake now. The questions are good, and even if they can't remember or they make things up, you will have interesting conversations. Tip: video her answers if you can.”
