It took me years to figure out why my hips were so tight. I tried a million hip mobility exercises, stretches, dry needling, and a chiropractor. Nothing seemed to help. If this sounds like you, learn from me in this one post what took me over a decade to find out on my own.
My problem wasn’t poor hip mobility due to muscles, it was incredibly tight CAPSULES. Without addressing the tight connective tissue and ligaments first, mobility work and stretches weren’t doing a single thing for me.
If you feel like this resonates with you, get your butt to a PT and have them try this. It only took me a couple of sessions to see a huge improvement.
BONUS: You can buy the strap they use at the physical therapy office for manual mobilization on Amazon. Videos online can show you how to use the belt and a partner or friend can help stretch your hips. I highly recommend going to a PT first if you can. My PT offered to have my partner come in so he could show him the proper technique for using the belt to maintain my flexibility. It’s not rocket science or anything, but you definitely want to make sure you are doing it right.
