In general I think we aren’t really considering the ins and outs of a dog thoughtfully enough (said a person who has made this mistake).
Like, do you want to live with a slobbery mess? Or do you want a cuddly friend? Do you want to live with constant barking? Do you want to fight a leash with all your might? It doesn’t have to be this way. Get a dog who needs as much exercise as you do. A dog that is sweet to your children. A dog that runs away every so often but goes to the same place every time so it’s not that bad. A dog that is fun to hang with but doesn’t dominate your house or life.
Choose a dog that suits your family (spoiler, it’s probably a border collie poodle mix from Hall Ranch in Utah). True story: we bought this cutie in a Black Friday sale while mucking through the grief of losing our last dog (who was insane and hard to live with) and got so lucky because he’s the bestest boy, so sweet and fun, very laid back, doesn’t shed, doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. And now we’ve recommended this breeder to friends who have had as much success as we have.
