The Great Good Place by Ray Oldenburg (1989)

This is the book that first coined the term “third place”, which seems like we talk about so much these days because there is such a lack of gathering places in our modern world that is neither home nor work. I recommend book clubbing this with a friend or two and sharing how you can apply what you learn to your respective communities.

Note that since this book is quite old now, some of the chapters are a bit antiquated in thinking (e.g. a chapter about women’s roles), but I loved reading the primary source that first got us all thinking and talking about third places.
