My husband and I have done this since we dated. We started with LOTR, read the entire Harry Potter series and now are back to LOTR. It’s such a wonderful way to wind down before bed, be immersed in a story together and helps us both sleep better. It’s vulnerable and intimate in its own unique way.

A few weeks ago I rec’d the book “Blue Castle” by L.M. Montgomery, and two people said they’ve had it read to them by their loved ones. I know it’s not similar to Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, but I thought that since two different people commented they had the book read to them, then it may be something you can add to your “to read to each other list”!

I don’t think it’d be as good as a read aloud but if you guys have enjoyed LOTR, you may also like The Children of Húrin. I wanted to read the Silmarillion, tried it, but really struggled (but I hope to eventually read it one day). But Children of Húrin is a chapter in the Silmarillion, that Tolkien’s son edited into a book that reads more like the trilogy and Hobbit so it’s a bit easier to digest.
