I listened to the audiobook of this and really enjoyed it! It's similar in atmosphere and theme to The Virgin Suicides, as well as in the fact that the story revolves around a community's fixation on a group of siblings whose perspectives we never see directly.

i'm surprising myself with this book as an answer to your question - tonally it's very different from the virgin suicides in many ways: it's funny; it's decidedly written by a woman, from a woman's perspective; and it's a satire. still, i think there's a shared interest in exploring the plane of female sadness and a certain kind of resignation that both books have toward their ill-fated protagonists. both books describe their central women as both doomed and aesthetically aspirational, and in both books, the women/girls are always kept at some distance to us
