In our tech-obsessed and modern society it kind of blows my mind that not too many generations ago people actually knew how to do things like make a chair or build an entire log cabin without looking it up on YouTube or finding a specialist. This knowledge was passed down, you learned by doing, and you used the materials you had around you. I’m so glad a high school class in Appalachia started interviewing their elders in the 60s and turned it into a magazine (which then became a book series). Oral history is so important, and so is traditional knowledge.
