The Safekeep, a brilliant novel by Yael Van der Wouden ( LGBTQ)
This is a very unexpected book. I decided to read it because Rebecca Solnit said that she had loved it on her holiday and frankly I'm predisposed to listen to whatever she or John Waters says about books. This is a great novel, so hard to put down, and takes you all kinds of places.... I didn't know anything about it before I read it, and sometimes I love that. It is really very beautifully written, so interesting, about people, relationships, history, culture, politics- the full gamut of human experience. I highly recommend it.

It is extremely daunting going into the job market right now. If you just go ahead and start applying for things cold where you don't know anybody, you might put in 100 applications without even hearing anything back. This can be extremely disheartening. I highly recommend LinkedIn and starting to make relationships wherever possible. Offer something that only you can offer to help someone else. Volunteer if you can, involve yourself in organizations and causes that you are interested in. Relationships are where the jobs will come, and if you don't have them right now then I promise you you can make them. I move to the US 10 years ago not knowing anyone or anything and now I run two businesses because I did this.
They made this is an amazing queer/ women owner business that works with British artists to sell their work! So many amazing originals and prints to choose from. Stores in Brighton, UK and an online shop.
