A beautiful anime film that nails the tricky representation of childhood trauma - how it can skew perceptions of the external and internal world alike. Almost the entire film is shown through the perspective of the two main characters as opposed leveraging really any objective takes.
There are plenty of MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD Fight Club-esque theories that these two main characters (named white and black) really just represent good and evil within one individual. They have separate actions, attitudes, thoughts and perspectives, but ultimately represent different psychological states of one being.
Even if the above does nothing to spur your interest, it is absolutely stunning to look at. Stunning, unique and surreal in a way that I feel like only one of my other absolute all time favorites, Paprika, comes close to.
