from very personal experience a decade ago, get the 5 year visa instead of the 1 year visa if that’s possible. because maybe it is home in the end.

Practically, I did my move in 1 big box and three suitcases. I brought three mugs and a serving dish I love (packed religiously cushioned). A few throw pillows, a quilt to help with cushioning and small pieces of art. Still have it all 10 years later.
