How often do we actually get to experience a live Sade concert? Not often enough.
When I come to the reality that I might never see my favorite artist of all time perform live, partly because of her own illustriousness/ other part because of her allegiance to reclusion, I find myself looking back at old tour videos. This is my favorite Sade song right now. It's evident nthat this song, in full, speaks on death and missing that person so much you want them to visit you as a form of haunting, but it's the greatest analogy for a missed connection or failed love in your life. Even if you have doubted the love, there's an unknowing or unintentional pursuit of wanting that person to infringe upon your most peaceful moments, whether in the form of a thought, in dreams, or even in parallels of a possible next relationship.
And sonically, There’s something so haunting about it—no pun intended—and she’s wearing a stage outfit she designed herself, which somehow makes the whole performance even more personal, modest and special.
It’s incredibly difficult to cover a Sade song, and seldom is it done right. But I think it’s an even bigger commitment to sing alongside of her inimitable tone and cadence without doing a conspicuous Sade impression. So, a special shoutout to her amazing co-vocalist for holding his own alongside her.
I genuinely wish I could teleport myself inside this video.
