As I enter my ninth month of living in Italy, I long for those halcyon days when I was impressed by every gelato I ate. Unfortunately my friend Lucia (from Emilia Romagna, where she claims they make the only gelato worth eating) has turned me into a snob. If you’re travelling in northern Italy, do yourself a favour and go to La Romana for your gelato fix. They fill the bottom of your cone with melted chocolate and have a great, but small, list of flavours. Don’t be put off by the fact that it’s a chain. None of the locals are.
