There was a time when we had exactly the right amount of technology. Not too much, not too little. That time might have been 1999, when the beast that is the Bernina 1008 sewing machine was born. Everything you love about a mechanical sewing machine that won’t go on the fritz because of electrical panel problems you can’t solve. Snap-in feet for everything from buttonholes to edgestitching to zippers. A perfect piece of technology.

Can you tell me about the buttonholes function? My current machine is terrible at them, but all I want to sew is button ups.

You just get a buttonhole foot, then find some machine-specific YouTube instructions for how to sew one! There’s a dial on the right of the machine that you turn one tick over for each part of the buttonhole after setting stitch length correctly. I’ve found it to be really easy after a couple of early tries to get the system down!
