I paid my nyc housing dues (many shoe box apartments, no windows, 5 roomies, have been robbed down to my pennies and fur coats, the list goes on) and this beautiful office/dressing room is now all mine. I still feel like I don’t deserve something so luxurious. All mine?! Really?!?
I walk into my dollhouse every morning and dig my toes into my pink rug while I power up my pink computer. I’m thankful and feel like I can die having lived an entirely fulfilled life now. It is that serious.
My computer chair was free, jack lenor Larsen couch, free, and boob art, free. pendant and pillow cases purchased in Kathmandu, Nepal. This room is really a safe and creative haven for me.
Even if you are still living in a shoe box apartment with 5 roomies, find a corner that you can decorate the way you want. Envision the kind of space you want someday and believe it will be yours. The nyc housing gods are real. Treat them with respect and find the beauty in what you have in the meantime.
I will always miss the haunted apartment I lived in with my bestie in the LES and laugh about our subleasers who didn’t pay the rent while simultaneously robbing us. We could also open the fridge from the couch. That’s fun! This stuff made me a lot tougher and we need to be able to take curveballs.
Housing gods, buy nothing groups, creative expression, resilience🩷✨
