My sensory seeking, low sleep needs child is not made for a chill bedtime routine. Calm slow wind downs are not her bag, and figuring that out has been a game changer for us. Instead of spending forever trying to wrangle her into bed, if she isn't tired enough after 5min it's wrestle mania, baby. We throw pillows around, roll her around on the bed in blankets, have her run around with her beloved weighted stuffed animal (will have to write a rec for that on it's own, we love moocow), and do deep squeezes on arms and legs. It is so much fun, and you can see it regulate her in real time. It takes no time to tire her out, she falls asleep faster, sleeps better, and it's a nice time for connection for us all.
