James Tate is kind of like the Mitch Hedberg of poetry -- some how both absurdist and relatable. Born in Kansas City, Missouri -- studied at the University of Iowa and later taught at UC Berkley, Columbia, and UMass Amherst where he worked from 1971 to his death in 2015 -- teaching all the way through his writing career.
