ok so one time when i was in la a few years ago i made it my mission to score an invite to the LEGENDARY and RANDOMLY EXCLUSIVE magic castle, an old Hollywood mansion ("old hollywood" in the sense of like, old and in Hollywood, but also "old hollywood" like, golden-era Hollywood) that's been converted into a black-tie space where you are only allowed to go if you 1) are a magician or 2) know a magician. in fact i learned in la it's actually incredibly easy to meet a magician who will put you on their guest list for the magic castle (distressingly so, in fact) and the night was one of the silliest and craziest i've had in a minute. simply the best

this made me laugh. ok basically i just spent a few days telling all of my friends and family in la that i was looking to meet a magician, and literally the first time i did that two people who work in entertainment immediately said they had friends of friends who knew people who were magicians. so that's one approach (what could be called "the hollywood"). but the other rec i got at the time was just to look up which magicians are performing on a certain night and just dm them on instagram and ask if they can put you on the list/invite you and i think that works, too (or "the shortcut," which is less exciting). my DREAM is to find what a friend of a friend had, which is to meet a magician who will take you to the magic castle themselves and show you the secret magicians-only areas that are even HARDER to get to... this remains on my bucket list. i'm not even 100% it's real but i want to believe
!! the dream!! a lady magician no less ... that's the real best case scenario lol
