sometimes you can actually stop believing anything you think after 9 pm!
this especially applies to things like fights you're thinking about picking (or maybe are actively picking right that moment); texts you're thinking about sending; the marathon you may or may not ever run; the friends you've grown apart from; the passage of time; whether you should go to grad school; the person who was rude to you in high school; the person you were rude to in high school; &c &c &c ad infinitum until it's 2 am and you're still not sure whether you'll ever buy new running shoes, let alone run a marathon.
the only solution is to pause, take some deep breaths, turn your phone off, and read until you fall asleep. maybe put some lavender oil on your wrists and sip on some water or herbal tea to calm you down. one of the best things i've learned with age!

perhaps the bravest among us do this 24 hours a day
yes! exactly. and i told my husband about this philosophy and so now when i start unloading various nighttime anxieties to him he's like "this is all valid but ... just btw ... it's after 10:00" and then i'm like "... oh. omg! *sigh*" and then we like watch new girl and go to sleep lol. it helps to have an accountability buddy remind you just in case the spiral's pull gets too strong!
thank you so much :-') great minds think alike!
exactly!!
