“if nothing else, this book made me so hungry for mochi and onigiri that i think it would be a fabulous read to get you in the mood to eat delicious food (feminist-ly). but i think it also offered me an interesting portrait of conversations about food, beauty standards, sexuality and femininity in contemporary Japan that I really appreciated”

Raquel

“If you love food and a slow unraveling through conversation about what it is like being an unconventional woman in society bristling against gender norms and 男尊女卑, pick up this book.”

Gemma Lacey

“Though pitched as a thriller of sorts this book’s main effect was to make me hungry. I loved it and have been inspired to buy Echire butter and fold it into warm rice with soy sauce- heavenly!”
