YES. Where I grew up we had a class called “Home Economics” where we learned to sew buttons by hand, use a sewing machine to make a pillowcase, scramble eggs, put together a monthly budget, and take care of a fake baby. It was mandatory for all students, so boys and girls followed the same curriculum. It sounds kind of silly when I write it out, but when I think back on it, what we learned was SO practical. My kids (8 + 10) don’t have this in school so I’m teaching them myself. Everything except the fake baby… 🤣
Not silly at all!!! I never had home ec and feel a hole in my heart daily about it. I had to call my mom from college on my first day in an apartment and ask what to eat because I didn’t know what to feed myself. If I’d had home ec, we could have skipped the “only Diet Coke and frozen green bean” phase.
