Greetings from Hotel Preistoriche, Montegrotto Terme, Italy! It’s unfortunately my last day in this paradise, so I’ve been doing everything to soak up this moment, no pun intended. I’ve spent four days here, each of which was full of messages, pills, saunas, contrast therapies, and indulging in whatever treatments struck my fancy. After a very busy, and admittedly stressful, year, this brief vacation was much needed.
As a lover of all things water and relaxation, I really loved my time here. I got around one massage a day, my favorite of which was the “deconstructing” massage. After a couple injuries, I hold a lot of tension in my body which has caused me to need a really receptive and aware massage therapist (technically a physician therapist). Every one there was really good about finding the tightest spots and balancing being gentle with being persistent. By the second session, I could really notice how much discomfort had been released. I’d also highly recommend their original mud treatment that focuses on bicycle connection.
That, combined with the pools and daily sauna + cold plunge sessions, made a world of difference in how I felt. I’m a bit of a water snob, and I find it to be a really lovely experience with very flexible and attentive staff. My daily rotation of swimming laps in the morning, getting a massage, doing a sauna then cold plunge, and then relaxing in the pools with a variety of jets was honestly amazing and one of my better spa experiences!
