Make a ruff with coffee filters

Recommended by Sophie Consults

in response to Sam

I want to dress up like Emily Dickinson for Halloween. I want my pockets to be filled with fragments of poems, and I will pull off my most severe part yet, but that’s the easy part! In the portrait you’ll find if you search her up, she’s wearing a black dress—but in my extensive research I have found that she was, more often than not, wearing a white wrapper (if you search Emily Dickinson + white dress you can see it). Does anyone have ideas for this piece of the puzzle? Is it a high-necked nightgown from Eileen West? Any vintage leads are amazing, too.

Unless you want to wear a ruffly collared shirt again, I suggest making a temporary one at home with coffee filters! I did this when I was a jester but I'm sure you can style it with writerly dignity.
