only about 5-9% of global plastic waste is properly recycled; 12-19% is incinerated, and nearly 50- 79% is dumped directly into landfills or the open environment. eco-bricking is a wonderful way to keep loose unrecyclable plastics out of the environments & oceans. when packed to the correct density they are used as durable insulating blocks which are then used by communities to build furniture, garden beds & small structures.

how to:

1. 1. find a bottle. use a clean, sturdy & dry single use plastic bottle.

2. 2. collect plastic. gather non-recyclable or hard-to-recycle thin plastics like wrappers, bags, and packaging.

3. 3. pack densely. use a stick to push the plastic tightly together, leaving no air pockets

4. 4. test density. it should be rock hard & not yield when squeezed.

5. 5. donate or find a project. use the GoBrik Project Map to find registered ecobrickers, schools, or community hubs in the north texas area accepting donations.

6. 6. check local environmental groups, community gardens, or facebook neighborhood groups to see if anyone is planning an ecobrick build.

7. alternatively, if no projects are accepting them & you have no use for them, simply throw them away. while the ideal goal is to reuse creatively, the eco brick still successfully keeps loose plastic out of our environment. ecobricks cannot be processed by recycling facilities so do not put them in your recycle bin.
