Decoctions are usually made from harder, less soluble parts of the plant such as roots, barks, twigs, seeds, nuts, berries, woody stems, etc. They can be made with fresh or dry plant material. I use a similar ratio to an infusion 1 tbsp over herb per cup of water.
Combine herbs and water in a pot on the stove and bring to a slow, rolling simmer for about 20 minutes to an hour. The decoction is then removed from the heat. let the herbs sit in the water another 30 min to overnight, depending on how strong you’d like the brew to be.
