paying kids for innovation

my 8 year old oliver is a beautiful visual artist. i commissioned this series from him recently…the first time he’s ever been paid for his art. i watched it shift something in him and the way he creates. i believe (slash hope) it wasn’t just the money per se, but the experience of making something valuable and then being valued for it. and how invigorating that is!!

it made me wonder if there’s something to paying kids for creating value in some way unique to them (not just completing chores, which are also great!). also nintendo is expensive so ;)
