My battle with ingrowns was not pretty. I tried everything to help my bikini line, from the usual suspects (hello, Tend Skin) to bougie products from Fur and Soft Services. I tried homemade 100% salicylic acid aspirin masks, and heavy-duty tools made for guys with ingrown beards. I tried all the hair removal techniques that claim to put an end to them. Nothing helped, like, at all. Finally, I decided to laser it off——and, guess what?! That didn’t work either!
Everything changed when I discovered urea cream. Urea is a keratolytic. It dissolves and loosens dead skin, thereby freeing the trapped hair underneath. It’s surprisingly gentle, yet really works for both prevention and treatment of ingrown hairs. (It’s also great for preventing ingrown toenails——and for pedicure-like improvement of the soles of your feet.)
My chosen product is a power hitter with 60% urea, plus tea tree, aloe, salicylic, and coconut oil. It comes in a hygienic pump bottle rather than a jar. Even though it’s working hard, it doesn’t sting or tingle in any way. You can find it at the link. As with any product with active ingredients, please patch test first, consult your doctor, and introduce it slowly to your routine. It may just change your life.
