We are mid- melon season here in the Southland. If you’re a fellow melon-fiend, you’re familiar with Wieser Farms. They have the most incredible selection of delectable, sweet fleshy orbs.
⚡️TOP MELONS:
BONNY: masquerading as a small cantaloupe, this little gem packs a punch with a sherbet orange flesh that’s slightly tart and reminiscent of a Jolly Rancher. Perfect accompaniment for asada tacos!
OGEN: the most gorgeous striped rind with faint green flesh that emits a strong fragrance— bodily, green, herbaceous and sweet. The taste is much more subtle- think aquatic honeydew. Indelible.
I am a solo-dweller, and sometimes it’s challenging to get through all the produce I have the best intentions of eating in a week’s time. Today, I pulled out an over-ripe Ogen melon out of the fridge, sliced it up, and put it in my blender. I enjoyed it as a shake…but it would make amazing popsicles too! Makes for a frothy, not-to-sweet and refreshing summer treat🍈
RECIPE:
one over-ripe melon
1 can coconut cream
1/2 cup coconut water
1 cup ice
sea salt to taste
finish with calamansi lime zest for extra credit 🍋🟩
