This connects beautifully to Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison: both novels ask what happens when the person you really are remains unseen beneath the identity the world assigns you. Its awakening is intimate and emotional rather than overtly philosophical.

“You should read Madonna in a Fur Coat because it proves the quietest person you know might have a mind-blowing, tragic love story and emotional world hidden inside them. This book is written from two different perspectives which shows how one person tries to understand the other one. The author, Sabahattin Ali, was later murdered for his political views.”
