Start thinking about your summer garden now

I used to kick myself every spring when I’d see people harvesting armfuls of beautiful flowers and realize I should’ve been thinking about mine months ago.

Some flowers need to be started indoors well before the last frost, so fall and winter are actually such a good time to figure out what you want to grow, order seeds, and make a plan.

Zinnias were my favorite as a first-time gardener. I sowed mine directly into the ground, so no winter seed-starting required, but it was so nice to already know what I was planting and where.

Lots of color, lots of blooms, fairly easy to maintain(even in the Texas heat)and they’re cut-and-come-again. The more you cut, the more flowers they try to produce.

Plant the zinnias. Your summer self will thank you.
