Not only that, with the state of airline cancellations, it always pays to have an extra day to get back if needed!

Big fan of this and like to do a cross-fade into work on my extra day: answer some emails, get organized, but also chill, do chores, and buy groceries

My boss also insists that anyone taking a week long vacation or longer also block off their first day back to protect time to catch up on emails and what all happened. We only attend the meetings within our group or meetings where we can get caught up. It allows us to roll back into work much more smoothly

This is a non-negotiable for me. Better yet, take your vacay the week before a long weekend. Fly back Saturday and don’t have to go back to work until Tuesday!

I’ve started doing a leave mid-week, return mid-week as well that makes it easier to disconnect because I have a couple days on each end to connect with colleagues and move things forward.
