I am selective about purchasing physical copies of books, but this is one that made the cut. The most memorable bit for me was about Nestlé sending a barge of junk food down the Amazon river to access “new customers” in communities so remote that there were no roads nor resources for the public health crises that their products would eventually cause.
Could the author have made his point without the Super Size Me antics? Sure. But seeing how quickly and how deeply a diet full of processed foods can impact health is shocking. And even knowing this, it’s still impossible to escape processed foods entirely.
