Marion Nestle is a hero and a genius and we would all do to study her work (or revisit it) with the seriousness it deserves. It must feel so good to have been proven right more and more with each passing day!
This book was first released in 2002 and it is truly shocking how everything that was wrong with Big Food then has only become more of an issue today. Questionable, if not outright ludicrous, health claims made by supplement manufacturers! Lobbyists turned politicians with glaring conflicts of interest in regulatory matters! An overabdundance of hyper-palatable foods being aggressively marketed to children! She covers all this and more.
I don’t yet know how I can be most effective in fighting for a more just and better-regulated food system for everyone, but even if all this book does is help me apply some lessons at home, I believe it to be a victory. Question everyone who wants to sell you something to put in your body.
