my mom’s a quilter and she had this wonderful book aboutthe quilts of Gee’s Bend and I remember flipping through the pages as a kid and just being mesmerized. My mom‘s quilts were always so perfect because she was such a perfectionist, but these quilts are perfect at a different way. I look like love and community and resilience. There is something so visceral about the act of sewing back together the remnants of fabric from old or unusable textiles.
