Bread and Cie

Bread & Cie is the perfect definition of the old new place: Opened in 1994, it wasn't around when I was growing up, but it was already a fixture when I came back from college.

Easily the best crusty bread bakery in town: If you've eaten at a San Diego restaurant that doesn't bake their own bread, chances are you've had Bread & Cie already.

In the summertime, watch for their heirloom tomato BLT -- while the regular BLT is good, whoever they get these heirlooms from knows what they're doing. Good coffee and fancy (and non-fancy) pastries too.
