This is so lovely. Pacing is a big thing for ME/CFS, which is what I have, but even though I’ve been dealing with this for two years I still haven’t become a pro at the listening to my body part. I think with something academic I struggle with it bc the focusing part is hard, and then once I do hyperfocus I want to keep that going. But yes, I definitely do damage when I overdo it so it’s about the balance. This is all so thoughtful, thank you.

Me too! Unfortunately, it’s a process I’m still working through as well. I am a perfectionist and put a lot of pressure on myself, so I usually push myself way beyond my energy limits which causes post exterional malaise. I don’t like taking breaks but I have to remind myself that I tend to function better in the long run that way. Sometimes I’ll do a few short periods of rest-activity pacing, then a longer period of a focused activity (if I want to be hyper focused), and then go back to the short rest-activity routines after. These may help you too (not necessarily with your your project but with life with CFS in general) https://silo.tips/download/life-enhancing-energ... . Reddit has a ME/CFS group too with some good advice but I have to be careful on there because some people are negative.

Solidarity again!!! I’m so sorry you’re struggling with it too. And yes, I completely relate to the risks on Reddit — there’s a line between what feels validating and what starts to feel just really scary. I run into that with long covid Twitter. It’s tough tho, because so few people understand it, and it’s nice to be in spaces where you’re understood. Always here to trade pacing / chronic pain tips!!
