Harry Potter alternatives

I'm going to give folks the benefit of the doubt and assume that the people on here I've seen recommend Harry Potter simply don't know just how actively awful JK Rowling is. This isn't a situation where you can separate the art from the artist because the artist has insisted on connecting them.

Here's the deal: she uses the wealth acquired through the Harry Potter franchise (and all its tentacles) to directly fund continuous, aggressive attacks on the lives of trans people, aiming to take away our rights, healthcare, and access to public spaces. She has also explicitly said that she believes that all engagement with her work (buying the books, watching the movies and upcoming show, even writing fan fiction) is an endorsement of her views, because people are "too afraid" to speak up against trans people existing but want to show their support of her crusade by supporting her work.

Every time you recommend Harry Potter, the trans people in your life notice and understand that you are not a person who will prioritize their lives and safety.

Thankfully there are many great alternatives to Harry Potter out there! Here are some of my favorites:

• Wizard's Hall (which basically has the same plot as Harry Potter but was published before HP, and is by Jane Yolen, the queen)

• Animorphs

• Dragon Riders of Pern

• Earthsea

• Nevermoor

• His Dark Materials

I'm sure there are others! Please, I beg, stop supporting this horrible person who wants me and my friends to be forcibly removed from this earth.
