Enzo Mari
Italian artist and designer Enzo Mari, built a practice around the idea that design should elevate the human experience rather than serve only the wealthy, or creation of wealth. He had a keen ability for a cutting and grumpy critique of the world. His Autoprogettazione series (below), was and is a masterpiece work and epitome of his ideals -- a set of strikingly wonderful designs with free instructions provided for building beautiful, sturdy furniture from readily available pre-cut lumber -- furniture for the people.

“Out of the belief that good design should be universally accessible, Italian industrial designer Enzo Mari left us with plans and instructions for building beautiful, functional furniture out of inexpensive materials, like pine and plywood. I highly recommend having your stoner carpenter friend from high school help furnish your house by building furniture following Enzo Mari’s free—by-design plan”

“Let Enzo show you how to make a chair or two! Release the grip of capitalism already!”
