Such a gorgeous experience of a read. The presence of her writing lets you walk alongside her. Ultimately, Patti Smith is your friend. You’ve been through it all with her. Her two follow up memoirs are worthwhile too, but this one’s the masterpiece. Required reading.

“The most beautiful and heartbreaking story of old New York that I've re-read again and again. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy if you haven't had a chance to.”

“Has remained in my top 5 favorite books from the moment I read it (15 years ago).”

“This book was on my mom's nightstand when I was a kid and I thought the cover image was her and dad with my mom wearing a wig. Also extra fun for me because Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe's first apartment was down the street from where I grew up in Brooklyn! 160 Hall Street for 80 bucks a month.Beautiful book as expected from such a thoughtful and brilliant writer.”
