It’s tough work, but so worth it for me. Sitting behind a desk all day, looking a floating heads, and trying to justify my work was too nebulous—not tangible. As soon as I started volunteering at a museum garden, my mental overwhelm was no more.
Gardening forces me to focus on what is in front of me: smelling dirt, plant matter, and hearing the rustle of nature—including birds and insects. I realized what I was lacking was opportunities to manually manipulate the world around me and screen time (at work) followed by more screen time (to unwind) was not it. I recommend taking some courses and leaning on them as you pitch your gardening skills to affluent (higher paying) customers.
Bonus points: Whether im actually getting fit while working or not, my body feels way better than how it felt behind a computer.
