Let your kids use the good art supplies (sometimes)

Listen, I am not made of money and I am not a professional artist but the difference between $1 watercolors and $20 watercolors is significant. Ditto tempera vs. acrylics. Splurge a little! The better supplies are more fun for everyone involved.
