The hinoki shower gel from Nécessaire was a staple for me a while back, then got lost in the shuffle of newer launches. I picked it up again this month after re-experiencing it in the bathrooms at our cabin in Sea Ranch. I’d forgotten how perfectly it balances soft and woody. Japanese cedar oil gives it that clean, faintly resinous, bathhouse-at-dusk scent, while basil keeps it green and alive, magnolia softens the edges, and vetiver grounds everything without tipping too heavy. It smells expensive and calm at the same time. It’s also a legitimate body treatment. A gentle mix of AHA, BHA, and PHA works on rough texture and ingrowns, while niacinamide and resveratrol keep skin comfortable, all in a glycerin-rich base that conditions skin while cleansing.
