Huguette Caland spent five decades making funny, sensual, unapologetic work about the body in Beirut, Paris, and Los Angeles, and the art world took too long to fully understand. Recognition came late and has grown since she died in 2019. The Hammer's retrospective, A Life in a Few Lines, is an overdue correction, and it's glorious, heartfelt, and tender. She said it better than any wall text: "I squeeze [life] like an orange and eat the peel, because I don't want to miss a thing." On view through February 28, 2027.
