date night: reading at a restaurant

for when you want to hang out but you don't want to make conversation the whole time. we chat for the first 15 or 20 minutes, get our orders in and then whip out our books. I've always loved to read at bar or restaurant so doing it with my partner is just fantastic. we use our ereaders but physical books work too!

we don't completely ignore each other. sometimes we'll read a line or two, when someone gasps the other will look up giving them the chance to share. it's parallel play but in the world and someone else makes the food and does the dishes!

several times now servers or other patrons have told us this is their dream evening. (one of those conversations led to me writing this) frequently we end up chatting with people about books, which is a lovely treat!
